Every home comes with its own set of challenges. For this project, we worked with homeowners who had purchased a 2.5-storey bungalow on a prime plot of land that would house three generations of their family under one roof.
The location was ideal, with good schools and other amenities nearby. But the original home did very little with the irregular, angled lines of its plot.
Rather than force the design into a conventional rectangle, Rezt+Relax’s interior design team chose to lean into the geometry and make it one of the home’s defining features.
Understanding the Site: Designing Around an Irregular Plot
The triangular-shaped plot of the land was the main challenge posed by this rebuild project. Unlike rectangular plots, odd-sized plots like this call for strategic planning in order to avoid inefficient designs or unused “dead” spaces.

Instead of treating the shape as a restriction, we aligned the design with the site’s natural angles.
Key elements like the swimming pool and the long shared balcony on the upper storey wer intentionally angled to follow the slope of the plot. This created a more cohesive spatial flow while maximising usable space across the property.

The swimming pool, in particular, was installed at a slanted angle to match the boundary, giving the family’s young children a vibrant recreational space without losing surrounding land to wasted edges.
The property’s long frontage also became a highlight. We designed extended balconies and open shared spaces to visually “widen” the home and create a stronger sense of openness from both the street and the inside.
Expanding Space for Multi-Generational Living
The homeowners’ brief was clear: a house where grandparents, children, and grandchildren could live comfortably together, but still have their own personal space and privacy.
To achieve this, we designed a multi-level bungalow with 11 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, each one prioritising individual comfort alongside family interaction.
The larger bedrooms include hidden bathrooms tucked away behind spacious walk-in wardrobes, giving residents both privacy and a more seamless layout. Other rooms open onto private balconies, offering quieter spots to relax without leaving the family floor.

Shared spaces matter just as much in a home like this. We built in a wrapped balcony overlooking the pool, communal lounge areas, and a dedicated karaoke and entertainment room so different generations can come together as a family.

Accessibility was the other key consideration. We installed a private lift so the grandparents can move between storeys easily and comfortably, making the home genuinely usable for everyone in it.
The result is a home that’s expansive in scale but still connected, giving a multi-generational family the best of both worlds: togetherness and independence.
Thoughtful Use of Materials
Aside from spatial planning, Rezt-Relax paid special attention to material selection. The right materials for different rooms and functions will help ensure the home remains beautiful and durable for years to come:
Exterior Decking Areas
Composite wood decking was chosen for long-term practicality. Unlike natural timber, composite wood does not warp, bend, or fade easily in Singapore’s humid weather. This wood type also needs less maintenance.
Interiors
Marble-look porcelain tiles were used to achieve a luxurious aesthetic without the high maintenance requirements of natural marble. This gave the home an elegant and premium aesthetic while still remaining practical.

Porch
We installed a tinted glass canopy here to reduce heat and glare while still allowing natural light to wash over the entrance.

In fact, natural light was a top design priority for Rezt+Relax in this rebuild project because of the home’s irregular layout and multiple storeys. We inserted full-height glass panel walls wherever possible, particularly around the living area, to maximise daylight penetration and visually expand the interiors.
The living room was carefully positioned to make the most of the sunlight as it shifted throughout the day, ensuring the whole space would remain naturally bright and welcoming.

The Rezt+Relax Difference: Designing Beyond Limitations
Landed renovation projects like this take more than creativity and an eye for aesthetics. They demand technical planning, problem-solving, and the ability to manage large-scale complexity from day one.
At Rezt+Relax, we treat unconventional layouts as opportunities, not constraints. With careful spatial planning, even the most irregular plots can be transformed into homes that are both visually striking and genuinely functional.
With over 26 years of experience and more than 20,000 homeowners served across Singapore, we have built a reputation for delivering quality across every type of property, from HDB flats and condominiums to landed homes and full rebuilds.

Turning Constraints into Possibilities
With the right expertise, an irregular plot does not have to feel limited or compressed. In many cases, those very constraints are what create the most unique living spaces.
Whether you are working with a compact layout, a challenging plot shape, or a large-scale rebuild, we believe every home has the potential to become a dream home.
